When we were on the way to\u00a0Pangong Lake, we stopped for a while at an ice field formed on either side of a gently flowing stream. The\u00a0place looked beautiful, with a large\u00a0patch of ice covering the ground and often forming curious\u00a0patterns created from trapped\u00a0air bubbles, flowing water or brown grass sticking out from the solid surface of ice. On either side of the stream, melting ice trickled gently into water from the ice bed, allowing icicles to form. Along with the distant mountains covered in snow, the\u00a0patterns in the ice and the flowing water offered excellent\u00a0photography opportunities. So, our short stop extended for more than 30 minutes.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9006\" alt=\"winter in Ladakh\" src=\"http:\/\/travel.paintedstork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/ladakh-winter.jpg\" width=\"950\" height=\"633\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.paintedstork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/ladakh-winter.jpg 950w, http:\/\/www.paintedstork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/ladakh-winter-640x426.jpg 640w, http:\/\/www.paintedstork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/ladakh-winter-900x599.jpg 900w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 950px) 100vw, 950px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here is one of the many images made at the ice field. I was so delighted and so happy to see the beauty of this\u00a0place, that I felt it was worth my money on the trip, even if we did not make it to\u00a0Pangong. Of course, we reached\u00a0Pangong Tso in the next few hours, after many\u00a0photo-stops on the way.<\/p>\n<p>Somewhere in the\u00a0process of admiring the icicles and\u00a0photographing them, I got carried away and lied down on the ice for a few minutes to get that\u00a0perfect image that I had created in my mind. Our outspoken\u00a0driver Angchuk and the sober cook Norbu found this very amusing. For rest of the tour, they would tease me whenever we found ice-fields along the way, asking me if we should stop the car for and let me lie down.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I spent a week traversing the highlands of Ladakh in last winter.
