MY CANON 17-40 f/4L LENS HAS ARRIVED!
Sunday, September 25, 2005
It appeared like a long wait from the day I planned for buying it. I took delivery of the lens today. And of course the first thing I did was to take some test shots. And I loved the result to the core. The sharpness and colors are absolutely great. It seems worth every penny I spent on it. Checkout a sample picture below. And to see how sharp the lens is, see the 100% crop of of the image below. No USM or any kind of processing applied, converted using Canon DPP software. The image was shot at 40mm.

The sharpness of this lens is something that I could never imaging to get in any of my other cheap kit lenses. Wow is the word for it.
But there is some trouble if you mount it on 350D and want to use it with the camera's in-built flash. The lens obstructs the flash and can cause a shadow at the bottom of the picture. See the image below. But this of course is hardly a matter of concern since I would hardly use it with flash. I give a complete thumbs up for this terrific piece of glass. Now, next is another month long wait for my planned sabbatical. so I can put the lens for full use.

That 100% crop is quite amazing! It's going to be quite a while before I'll be able to afford an L lens.
Looking forward to seeing more shots with it!
